When you buy
- Meet in a public, well-lit place, in the daytime if you can, and bring a friend for expensive items.
- Inspect the item in person and test it before you pay. Never transfer money for something you have not seen.
- Be careful when the price is far below the market, when the seller refuses to meet or call, or when you are rushed.
- For cars, check the registration (mulkiya), service history and, where relevant, the traffic file; for property, confirm the broker’s RERA licence and the title before paying any deposit.
- Never share one-time passwords, card numbers or your Emirates ID photo with a stranger.
When you sell
- Accept cash or a transfer you can see in your account. Do not send items before payment arrives, and do not click payment links from buyers.
- Do not share more personal information than needed to complete the sale.
When you hire a business
- Ask for a written quote, check the trade licence and read recent reviews.
- Pay a small deposit only, and the rest after the work is done to your satisfaction.
