Most classifieds transactions in the UAE go fine. The ones that don't tend to follow a few recognizable patterns — here's what to watch for on either side of a deal.
If you're buying
- Be wary of prices well below market — a genuinely great deal exists, but an implausibly great one on a high-value item (phones, cars, jewellery) is the single most common scam signal.
- Insist on seeing the item in person before paying — a seller who has every reason to avoid meeting is a reason to walk away, not push forward.
- Keep the conversation on the platform until you're confident — messaging through the marketplace, rather than immediately moving to a personal number, keeps a record if something goes wrong.
- Never pay a "deposit to hold it" for an item you haven't seen, especially to a bank account or wallet with a name that doesn't match the seller's profile.
If you're selling
- Be cautious of overpayment — a buyer who "accidentally" sends more than the asking price and asks you to refund the difference is a well-known scam pattern; the original payment is often reversed or fake.
- Don't share one-time passwords or verification codes with a buyer — no legitimate transaction ever requires you to read out an OTP.
- Meet in a public, sensible location for high-value handovers.
What YalaFind does on its side
Every classified ad goes through moderation before it's visible — nothing publishes instantly. Contact details stay private until a buyer chooses to reveal them, rather than being posted openly. New ad submissions are checked for duplicate or near-duplicate patterns from the same seller, and the posting form itself is protected against automated bot submissions.
Reporting something
If a listing or a conversation looks wrong, use the report option on the listing or message thread. Flagging it helps keep the moderation queue accurate for everyone else browsing the same category.
